Carnival Cruise Line has officially revealed the name of its newest cruise ship, Carnival Destiny, which is scheduled to debut in summer 2029.
The new ship will be the first vessel in Carnival’s next-generation Ace Class and is expected to introduce a dramatically different design, with more ocean views, new onboard venues and a greater connection to the sea.
Carnival announced the ship during a traditional steel-cutting ceremony at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, on July 10, 2026. The event marked the official start of construction and included a 3D hologram offering an early look at the future ship.
Carnival Destiny Will Launch a New Class of Cruise Ships

Carnival Destiny will be the first of three ships planned for the new Ace Class.
The second and third ships are currently expected to arrive in 2031 and 2033.
Although Carnival has not yet revealed the size, passenger capacity or full list of onboard attractions, the cruise line says the Ace Class will represent a major evolution of the Carnival cruise experience.
More than 70 percent of the venues and attractions on Carnival Destiny will be completely new concepts for the cruise line.
These will include:
- New and reimagined restaurants
- Next-generation bars and lounges
- Immersive entertainment
- New outdoor spaces
- Redesigned areas that offer more views of the ocean
Additional information about the ship’s restaurants, entertainment and activities is expected to be released later in 2026.
A Cruise Ship Designed Around Ocean Views
One of the biggest differences between Carnival Destiny and Carnival’s existing ships will be its outward-facing design.
Carnival says Destiny will become the most outward-facing megaship at sea, with ocean views incorporated throughout more areas of the vessel.
The ship will feature an unusually high number of ocean-view balcony cabins, along with a redesigned lanai deck and more than 4.5 acres of glass.
Large, multi-story glass walls will help open sightlines across the ship and allow guests to see the ocean from more restaurants, lounges and public spaces.
This is an interesting change for Carnival, as many modern megaships tend to focus heavily on interior promenades, attractions and entertainment districts.
With Carnival Destiny, the cruise line appears to be placing a greater emphasis on helping passengers feel connected to the sea throughout their cruise.
Carnival Brings Back the Destiny Name

The Carnival Destiny name has special significance for the cruise line.
The original Carnival Destiny debuted in 1996 and was considered groundbreaking at the time. It was the first passenger ship to exceed 100,000 gross tons and briefly held the title of the world’s largest cruise ship.
The original ship was built by Fincantieri, beginning a shipbuilding partnership between Carnival and the Italian company that has now continued for more than 30 years.
In 2013, the original Carnival Destiny underwent an extensive transformation and was renamed Carnival Sunshine.
The new Carnival Destiny will continue that legacy while introducing an entirely new generation of Carnival ships.
“Carnival Destiny builds on a legacy that changed cruising once before, reimagining what guests can experience at sea,” said Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy.
She added that the new ship is being designed to feel more expansive while helping guests feel more connected to the ocean.
Where Will Carnival Destiny Sail?
Carnival has not yet announced a homeport or specific itineraries for Carnival Destiny. However, the cruise line confirmed that the ship will visit destinations within the Paradise Collection by Carnival.
The Paradise Collection includes Carnival’s exclusive destinations in the Caribbean, Bahamas and Mexico, including Celebration Key on Grand Bahama Island. Carnival has described the collection as the largest portfolio of exclusive cruise destinations in the region.
More details about Carnival Destiny’s itineraries and destinations are expected closer to the ship’s 2029 launch.
When Will Carnival Destiny Enter Service?
Carnival Destiny is currently scheduled to be delivered in summer 2029.
The cruise line has not yet announced an exact inaugural sailing date, booking schedule or homeport.
Cruisers can expect additional announcements about the ship’s cabins, restaurants, entertainment and outdoor attractions later this year.
With more balcony cabins, massive glass walls and dozens of new onboard concepts, Carnival Destiny appears set to introduce a noticeably different style of Carnival cruise ship.
While many details remain under wraps, the focus on ocean views could be one of the most exciting features of Carnival’s new Ace Class.
