During sea trials, a new cruise ship is tested in real-world conditions before entering service. For Legend of the Seas, this means heading into open water for a series of technical and performance evaluations.

Over the next 10 days, more than 2,000 engineers, specialists, and crew members will carefully test the ship’s systems. This includes everything from how the ship moves through the water to engine performance and other key operational functions.

By the end of the trials, Legend of the Seas is expected to travel about 2,400 nautical miles before returning to the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland for the final stages of construction.

A major milestone for Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class

Legend of the Seas is the third ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, following the successful launches of Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas. The Icon Class has already made a big impression in the cruise industry for its focus on family-friendly attractions, neighborhood-style design, and a huge variety of dining and entertainment options.

Royal Caribbean says Legend of the Seas will continue building on that success with features designed for travelers of all ages.

What guests can expect onboard

According to Royal Caribbean, Legend of the Seas will offer eight distinct neighborhoods, each designed to match different vacation styles and moods. Guests can also expect more than 40 ways to dine, drink, and be entertained onboard.

Like its sister ships, Legend is expected to combine high-energy attractions, family experiences, and relaxing spaces, all in the bold and modern style that has become a signature of the Icon Class.

Legend of the Seas itineraries

After its inaugural summer season in Europe, Legend of the Seas will reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. From there, the ship will sail a mix of 6-night Western Caribbean cruises and 8-night Southern Caribbean cruises.

These itineraries will also include visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas, Royal Caribbean’s private island destination, which continues to be one of the cruise line’s biggest draws for vacationers.

Why this matters for cruisers

Sea trials are always an exciting moment because they show that a ship is getting very close to launch. For cruisers eagerly watching Royal Caribbean’s newest Icon Class ship, this is a clear sign that Legend of the Seas is on track for its July 2026 debut.

With the popularity of the Icon Class already soaring, Legend of the Seas is likely to attract a lot of interest from families, loyal Royal Caribbean cruisers, and travelers looking to try one of the newest and most innovative cruise ships at sea.
