Holland America Line is giving guests a rare chance to peek behind the curtain and see what makes their ships run like clockwork. The cruise line has officially brought back its popular behind-the-scenes ship tours, offering exclusive access to areas typically reserved for officers and crew.
Available now on select ships and rolling out fleetwide by the end of July, these tours take guests into the heart of the ship’s operations. From the bustling galley to the high-tech engine control room and even the navigational bridge, this experience offers a fascinating look at life below deck.
Go Beyond the Guest Areas

These immersive tours are designed to showcase the intricate systems and dedicated teams that keep Holland America Line’s “floating cities” sailing smoothly. Guests will get an insider’s perspective on ship operations, including a visit to:
- The bridge, where the captain and officers navigate and steer the ship
- The galley, home to world-class culinary creations
- The engine control room, the heart of the ship’s technical operations
- The recycling center, highlighting sustainability at sea
- The main laundry, where thousands of linens are washed daily
- Additional rarely seen spaces like the World Stage dressing rooms, provision storerooms, bakeries, and bar prep areas
At each stop, guests are met by shipboard team members—often senior officers—who provide expert insights into their departments and share stories about life at sea. It’s a unique chance to meet the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver Holland America Line’s signature service.
A Rare and Memorable Experience

“We hear so often from guests who’d love to see the bridge or where our chefs prepare their meals,” said Carole Biencourt, Holland America Line’s vice president of onboard revenue. “By bringing back this tour, we’re offering a rare opportunity to explore areas that are usually off-limits and to meet the crew members who make it all possible. It’s a fascinating look at the inner workings of a cruise ship.”
Guests who book the tour will also receive a ship-specific lanyard, a commemorative photo collection, and a certificate to mark the experience.
