Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed the entertainment lineup coming to its newest ship, Norwegian Aura, when the ship debuts in May 2027.
Headlining the new entertainment offerings will be “Whitney: A Celebration of Whitney Houston,” an original production created in partnership with The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and Primary Wave Music.
The new ship will also debut an illusion and acrobatics production, expanded live music experiences and the return of one of Norwegian’s newer adults-only nightlife shows.
Whitney Houston Tribute Show Coming to Norwegian Aura
The biggest entertainment announcement is “Whitney: A Celebration of Whitney Houston,” a 45-minute production celebrating the music and legacy of Whitney Houston.
The show will feature live singers, a live band, visual effects and performances that extend beyond the main stage inside the three-story Aura Theatre & Club.
Guests can expect some of Houston’s best-known songs, including:
- “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)”
- “I Will Always Love You”
- “It’s Not Right, But It’s OK”
Norwegian says the production will put a contemporary spin on Houston’s music while still celebrating the glamour, stage presence and powerful vocals she was known for.
The new show follows Norwegian Cruise Line’s recent trend of creating productions inspired by legendary musicians, including Prince aboard Norwegian Aqua and Elton John aboard Norwegian Luna.
“Following the success of our Prince and Elton John productions on Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna, respectively, this new show reimagines Whitney’s legendary catalog through contemporary arrangements, dynamic storytelling, stunning visuals and powerful live performances,” said Bryan White, vice president of entertainment production at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.
Pat Houston, executor of The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and president of the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation, also shared her excitement about the partnership.
“Whitney enjoyed cruises,” Houston said, adding that fans will be able to enjoy her music while sailing at sea.
ILLUMINOX Brings Illusions and Acrobatics to the Theater
Norwegian Aura will also introduce “ILLUMINOX: Infinite Wonder Unboxed,” a new 45-minute theatrical production combining large-scale illusions, acrobatics, original music and visual effects.
The show will also take place inside the Aura Theatre & Club and is designed as a fast-paced production focused on surprise, curiosity and spectacle.
The Vinyl Republic Brings More Live Music Around the Ship
Live music will play a bigger role aboard Norwegian Aura with the debut of The Vinyl Republic, a new music collective performing everything from rock and country to funk, blues and pop.
Rather than limiting the band to one venue, Norwegian plans to have The Vinyl Republic perform throughout the ship, including in the Penrose Atrium, Improv at Sea and the Aura Theatre & Club.
Two larger shows will also be offered.
The Vinyl Republic’s Journey Through Rock will feature the music of Journey along with songs inspired by the classic arena-rock era.
Meanwhile, The Vinyl Republic’s Kickin’ It Country will turn the theater into a late-night country party featuring current country hits and interactive line dancing.
LunaTique: Pop Circus Returns
Another entertainment option returning aboard Norwegian Aura is “LunaTique: Pop Circus.”
The adults-only experience first debuted aboard Norwegian Luna and combines cabaret, circus performances, music and nightlife.
The Norwegian Aura version will include new acts and new music.
Unlike most of the ship’s entertainment, LunaTique will come with an additional charge and will include cocktails paired with the performances.
More Entertainment Around Norwegian Aura
Norwegian Aura will also offer several additional entertainment experiences throughout each sailing.
Aura FIRST NIGHT will serve as a welcome show introducing passengers to the entertainment and performers they can expect to see during the cruise.
There will also be Latin LIVE!, a poolside party featuring live percussionists, singers, dancers and popular Latin dance music.
With the addition of the Whitney Houston production, illusion shows, live bands and late-night entertainment, Norwegian appears to be leaning heavily into entertainment as a major feature of Norwegian Aura.
The ship is scheduled to begin sailing in May 2027.
