Star Princess Completes Successful Sea Trials Ahead of October Debut

Sharing is caring!

Princess Cruises has announced that its highly anticipated second Sphere-Class ship, the Star Princess, has successfully completed sea trials. The trials mark a key step toward the vessel’s debut on October 4, 2025, when it will set sail on its inaugural voyage through the Mediterranean from Barcelona.

Successful Sea Trials in the Adriatic

From August 9 to 12, Star Princess departed the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, to undergo a series of rigorous sea trials in the Adriatic Sea. These included comprehensive tests of steering, navigation systems, and propulsion.

The ship is the second in the Princess fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), representing a significant advancement in reducing emissions. To further enhance efficiency and maneuverability, Star Princess is equipped with two Azipod propulsion units capable of 360-degree thrust in both forward and reverse, along with four controllable pitch bow thrusters for precise lateral movement.

Leadership at the Helm

The trials were overseen by Captain Gennaro Arma, a 27-year veteran of Princess Cruises and leader of the Sphere-Class newbuild site team. Captain Arma now leads a crew of 1,600 as the ship enters its final outfitting phase.

“We confidently led Star Princess through sea trials,” Captain Arma shared. “As the proud leader of our newest vessel, I’m extremely impressed with the ship’s navigation capabilities and maneuverability.

With the final countdown underway, my incredible teammates and I cannot wait to welcome guests aboard for unforgettable adventures this fall.”

Luxury and Innovation Onboard

Currently under final construction at Fincantieri, the 177,800-ton, 4,300-guest Star Princess is the sister ship to the award-winning Sun Princess. It will feature 30 distinct dining and bar venues, elevated entertainment, and a wide range of luxurious accommodations. These include Sanctuary Collection suites, mini-suites, and balcony staterooms, each offering a private retreat with exclusive amenities.

With more than 1,500 balcony staterooms, guests can enjoy sweeping ocean views from their own rooms.

Standout Venues and Experiences

Notable spaces aboard Star Princess include:

  • The Dome, a next-generation relaxation and entertainment space designed for all-day enjoyment.
  • The Arena, Princess’ most technologically advanced theater, built for spectacular performances.
  • The Piazza, the architectural centerpiece of the ship, featuring dramatic curves, floor-to-ceiling windows, and breathtaking ocean vistas.
  • Spellbound by Magic Castle®, an immersive speakeasy experience created in collaboration with the legendary Magic Castle™ of Hollywood.

Sailing Into a New Era
