Love by Britto Restaurant Review
On Sun Princess, Love by Britto is located on Deck 17 at the ship’s aft, offering stunning views of the ocean from the rear of the vessel. This specialty dining venue accommodates just 68 guests, creating an intimate and romantic atmosphere perfect for a memorable evening.
When Princess Cruises announced that Love by Britto would debut on the Sun Princess, it promised an unforgettable dining experience. The restaurant’s menu is crafted by master chef Rudi Sodamin, Princess Cruises’ head of culinary arts, known for his exquisite culinary creations.
Having enjoyed his dishes on other ships, I was eager to see what he had in store this time.
Before dining at Love by Britto, I interviewed Chef Rudi Sodamin about the new restaurant and Princess Cruises dining. He shared, “This is a dream concept that came true; there is no doubt about that. Romero is the painter, and I’m the chef.”
This collaboration highlights Chef Rudi’s commitment to quality and his ability to bring Romero Britto’s vibrant artistry to life on the plate.
During a 3-day North America Premiere media cruise aboard Sun Princess, we had the pleasure of dining at Love by Britto.
Here’s an inside look at our experience:
Inside Love by Britto
Located towards the top of the cruise ship, Love by Britto is a standalone restaurant with an exclusive and artistic ambiance. As you enter the venue, you’re immediately greeted by a burst of vibrant colors and an array of stunning artwork by Romero Britto, setting the tone for a unique dining experience.
As a fan of Britto’s work, I was captivated by the thoughtful artistic touches throughout the restaurant.
From the beautifully designed plates and dinner menus to the captivating wall art, every detail contributes to an immersive environment that celebrates both art and cuisine.
The restaurant’s layout maximizes its oceanfront location, with numerous tables positioned to provide breathtaking water views. Many are situated next to the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, offering cruisers a spectacular backdrop as they enjoy their meal.
The theme of love is woven throughout every aspect of the dining experience. You’ll find heart-shaped glasses, artisanal bread shaped like hearts, and even a subtle heart detail on the cutlery, all adding to the restaurant’s charming and romantic atmosphere.
When we arrived for our dining reservation, the restaurant was about half full, and we were promptly seated. Shortly after, our server introduced herself and took a moment to explain the dining experience and guide us through the menu.
Dining Menu & Dishes
As we settled in, we were welcomed with a glass of Romero Britto’s Love Prosecco, elegantly served in a champagne glass featuring a heart. Alongside our welcome drink, we enjoyed warm, freshly baked heart-shaped bread that was absolutely delicious.
While the complimentary Prosecco set the tone for the evening, we couldn’t resist ordering additional beverages, taking full advantage of our Princess Premiere package.
As I opened the dining menu, I realized that we were in for a delicious five-course meal beginning with an amuse-bouche. Our waitress explained that the purpose of the amuse-bouche was to awaken our pallets, setting the stage for the courses to come.
Course 1: Amuse
We had two enticing options: an oyster dressed with lemongrass kaffir, mirin, and a touch of gold flakes, or a handcrafted pumpkin ricotta ravioli.
I chose the handcrafted pumpkin ricotta ravioli, and from the first bite, I knew I had made the right choice. The pasta was perfectly tender, encasing a rich, creamy pumpkin filling that balanced sweetness with a hint of savory depth.
Course 2: Appetizers
Next, we elevated our dining experience with a selection of appetizers. The choices included a tuna and avocado tartare, a cappuccino of wild mushrooms, and a salad of beets with figs and goat cheese.
Being a mushroom soup enthusiast, I couldn’t resist the cappuccino of wild mushrooms. Meanwhile, other guests at our table ordered the beet salad and the tuna tartare, all of which were praised not only for their exceptional taste but also for their stunning presentation.
The cappuccino of wild mushrooms arrived in a charming Britto-themed cappuccino cup, adding a touch of artistry to the dish.
The flavor was outstanding, with a creamy texture that captured the essence of freshly foraged mushrooms. Each sip revealed layers of complexity, from subtle herbal notes to a delicate truffle finish.
It was a memorable dish that exceeded expectations, setting the bar high for the courses that followed.
Course 3: Intermezzo
Following the appetizers, we were treated to an intermezzo. Our waitress explained that this course was designed to cleanse the palate in preparation for the main dish.
The intermezzo featured pink champagne and rose petal granita, which surprised everyone with its exceptional flavor and refreshing quality. The champagne’s delicate sweetness paired beautifully with the chilled granita, creating a light and invigorating experience.
The dish was stunning visually, presented with a touch of elegance that perfectly matched the restaurant’s love theme. It was a delightful and unexpected highlight that added a romantic flair to the meal.
Course 4: Entrée
For the entrée, we had a fantastic selection of five delicious dishes: prime beef and Wagyu, Chilean sea bass, pistachio-crusted lamb rack, butter-poached lobster tail, and oven-baked veggies with mozzarella.
While all the options were enticing, I decided on the prime beef and Wagyu. This dish was nothing short of amazing—the quality of the beef was truly exceptional.
Having dined at numerous specialty restaurants across various mainstream cruise lines, I can confidently say this was the best beef I’ve ever had at a specialty restaurant. The meat was incredibly tender, bursting with layers of rich flavor that made every bite a delight.
The presentation was equally impressive, with vibrant seasonal vegetables artistically arranged alongside the beef, offering a pop of color. This combination of high-quality ingredients, expert preparation, and thoughtful presentation made the prime beef and Wagyu dish an absolute highlight of the meal.
Course 5: Dessert
After that delicious entrée, it was time for my favorite part: dessert!
We were presented with four tempting options: Lionel Richie’s “All Night Love” ice cream created by Tyra Banks, chocolate lava cake, assorted fresh berries with sabayon, and artisan cheese with honeycomb. Petits Fours is also served at each table to finish the meal.
I found myself torn between the ice cream and the chocolate lava cake, ultimately I chose the lava cake. This choice did not disappoint!
The chocolate lava cake was served warm, topped with a generous drizzle of melted chocolate that oozed over the sides. Each bite was a rich chocolate experience, complemented by subtle hints of raspberry cream that added an incredible fusion of flavors.
The presentation was stunning, with the heart-shaped lava cake elegantly plated and garnished to perfection. It was a truly memorable dish that served as the ideal finale to an amazing dining experience.
