Cruise passengers onboard Holland America Line’s Rotterdam were treated to a one-of-a-kind culinary spectacle on March 30 when world-renowned Chef Masaharu Morimoto led the creation of what is believed to be the longest maki sushi roll ever made at sea.
At approximately 90 feet in length, this impressive roll was crafted with the help of more than 50 culinary team members. It featured Nori seaweed, over 55 pounds of sushi rice, and 33 pounds of fresh Big Eye Tuna, all carefully rolled to create an unforgettable experience on the high seas.
Chef Morimoto, serving as Holland America Line’s Global Fresh Fish Ambassador, said the event was an exciting way to showcase the cruise line’s dedication to top-tier ingredients and culinary innovation.
Chef Morimoto was onboard Rotterdam for a special sailing from March 28 to 31 in celebration of the launch of Morimoto By Sea, a new premium sushi bar concept. Seating just 12 guests, this intimate venue offers a high-end sushi experience that reflects Morimoto’s signature style and commitment to fresh, sustainable seafood.
The new Morimoto By Sea sushi bar is set to debut across the fleet throughout 2025. Following its premiere on Rotterdam, it will be introduced on Koningsdam, Nieuw Statendam, and Eurodam between March and June.
This concept builds on the existing Morimoto By Sea stand-alone restaurant and pop-up experiences that first launched aboard Nieuw Amsterdam in 2023.
