Sharing is caring!

If you love flamingos as much as I do, the secret meaning of pink flamingos on a cruise might surprise you. After all, pink flamingos lend themselves well to Caribbean cruise wear and beach accessories.

Although less obvious than the upside down pineapple, there may be a hidden meaning to pink flamingo symbols. There’s no judgement either way, but this can be good to know before you go out and purchase a flamingo motif cruise wardrobe.

We’ve all seen plastic pink flamingos as lawn decorations, but pink flamingos are pretty common on a cruise as well.

What Do Pink Flamingos Mean?

What Do Pink Flamingos Mean on a Cruise?

On cruise ships, pink flamingos could be a secret symbol for swinging. However, it is common for vacation clothing and accessories to feature flamingos, so don’t assume everyone wearing a flamingo motif is a swinger!

If you’re looking for a stronger hint, look out for flamingos and upside-down pineapples together. If you see someone showing off these two symbols, they’re most likely trying to send a secret message!

On a cruise ship, you’ll see a lot of pink flamingos. However, most of the time it’s not being used as a symbol for swinging.

Since flamingos are commonly associated with tropical vacations and travel, many people will wear clothing, have door decorations, and cruise accessories that feature pink flamingos.

For instance, the towel clips that I use are pink flamingos and I am certainly not a swinger! I just like the look of the plastic pink flamingos, and I think they are a fun way to keep my towels in place.

Should I Decorate my Cruise Cabin Door with Flamingos?

Although decorating your cruise cabin doors with flamingos may seem fun, you may want to think twice when purchasing your cabin door decorations. The pink flamingo does have some ambiguity, as it is a lesser known symbol for swinging.

However, in recent years, pink flamingos have become a popular symbol for swinging on cruise ships. This is especially true if there are multiple signs that add up (ie. black ring, upside down pineapples, yin-yang tattoo, toe ring).

For the most part, other cruisers won’t realize. However, you may get some funny looks from your neighbors and even get a “friendly” knock on your door.

Can You Wear Flamingo Clothing on Cruise Ships?

Yes, you can wear flamingo clothing on a cruise ship. Unlike the upside-down pineapples, flamingos are not as commonly associated with the swinging community. It’s still very common for cruisers to wear shirts, accessories and have flamingo cruise ship door decorations.

So next time you’re on a cruise and you see clothing with pink flamingos, don’t assume it’s a sign of swinging. It’s most likely someone who likes clothing with a tropical look and bright colors.

However, if you see someone wearing upside-down pineapple clothing, there is most likely a hidden meaning behind it.

Unless you are trying to attract swingers, it’s best to avoid wearing clothing with the upside-down pineapple symbol. This is especially if your lounge chair towel clips are pink flamingoes.

Flamingos can symbolize swinging. At times, swingers will place plastic lawn flamingos in front of their house, to show others they are open to partner swapping. The swinger community uses other symbols like a black ring, upside-down pineapple, and garden gnomes, to send a hidden message to other swingers.

However, it is more likely that somebody likes the look of a flamingo in front of their house and they are not interested in swinging.

Do Flamingos Mean You Swing?

Although flamingos are a secret symbol swingers use, flamingos don’t always mean that you swing. Oftentimes, people will flamingo clothing and accessories without knowing the secret meaning behind it.

You will see pink flamingo towel clips, clothing, and cabin door decorations on a cruise ship. Flamingos are a popular symbol that many people associate with tropical vacations.

However, I would not recommend wearing upside-down pineapple clothing, as this symbol is much more common among swingers and the general public. People may assume you are a swinger, which can lead to them being extra friendly towards you.

The pink flamingo has a dual meaning since it is often associated with summertime, tropical vacations, and cocktails. However, it can also be a secret symbol for swingers to identify themselves subtly.

Wow! I had pink flamingos all over my front yard for years. Each one was placed for a family member, friend, friend’s family (mom, sister, etc) as they survived breast cancer! NEVER intended them to mean ANYTHING like this. What my neighbors must have thought LOL!!

That’s lovely! Despite the potential that flamingos have another meaning for some, I think most people don’t view them that way 🙂
