If you’re going on an MSC cruise for the first time, you’re probably wondering what is and isn’t included. While most cruise lines have accommodations, basic meals, entertainment and the use of pools and other facilities included, there are some differences on MSC that you’ll want to be aware of.
In this post, I share what’s included, or free, on an MSC cruise ship, as well as what is offered at an extra cost. I’ve included important MSC cruise tips so that you can know what to expect before you sail.
What’s Included on MSC Cruises
Food & Dining
On an MSC cruise, the main dining room and buffet are included food options.
Lido Buffet
MSC cruise ship buffets have many choices for all three meals of the day (plus snacks), ranging from classic American-style cuisine to fresh salads and pizza.
In the morning, the buffet offers many breakfast options, such as pancakes, bacon, eggs, omelettes, fresh fruit, and more!
In the afternoon, the buffet will be set up for lunch, with a wide variety of food to choose from. During our MSC cruise, we enjoyed pizza, burrata, and pasta.
In the evening, the buffet will be open, and you’ll have many different food options. These include chicken, fish, roast beef, and cold cuts.
The buffet is open all day and only closes for an hour when the food is changed for the different meals of the day. This is a convenient place to grab a delicious bite to eat, and I liked it because of the variety of food options.
Tip: MSC’s pizza is one of the best at sea, so be sure to try some!

Main Dining Rooms
The main dining room is open in the evening for dinner and brunch on sea days. Here, you can enjoy a 3-course sit-down meal with exceptional service.
Furthermore, there is a new menu in the main dining room every night of your cruise. The food ranges from pasta dishes to fish and steak.
Overall, the included food is very tasty, and the service is quick and efficient. The quick service allows you to eat your meal and enjoy the onboard evening entertainment.

Beverages
Onboard an MSC cruise, your fountain water, drip coffee, juices, tea bags, milk, and boiling water are included. You’ll find several drink stations around the cruise ship where you can grab a beverage and stay hydrated.
Furthermore, waiters will fill your glass with still water when you’re in the main dining room.

Onboard Activities
On an MSC cruise, there’s no shortage of included activities. The water slides, splash park, sports court (including tennis court, volleyball court & squash court), fitness center, mini golf, and walking track are all included in your cruise fare.
Whether you’re cruising as a family or as a couple, plenty of onboard activities cater to everyone. Furthermore, there will be activities like cooking demonstrations, dance classes, and pool games.
There was always something to do on the MSC Seascape. Whether I wanted to go on water slides, attend a cooking demonstration, or read a book in a lounge chair, I was never bored on that cruise ship.
Entertainment
There are many entertainment options onboard an MSC cruise each evening. These options range from production shows to comedy shows, live musical performances, and themed parties.
With such a wide variety of entertainment options, finding something to do that fits your style is easy. Whether you want to sit back and listen to live music, laugh at a comedy show, or dance at a themed party, there is something for everyone.
Furthermore, the production shows are family-friendly and fun, ideal for families cruising with younger children and teenagers.

There is something for all children and teenagers, from sports and video games to competitions and themed parties. This complimentary service is available every day of the cruise, allowing parents to have some alone time while their children are at the kids’ club.
Kids Club Groups:

Mobile App (MSC for Me)
When you take an MSC cruise, you’re going to want to download MSC’s mobile app beforehand. MSC for Me is free, and has many uses when you’re onboard the cruise ship.
Through the mobile app, you’ll be able to book excursions, make specialty dining reservations, and see what activities, and entertainment are taking place.
You’ll also be able to message other cruise passengers onboard the cruise ship through the mobile app. This is good for cruisers who do not want to purchase the Wi-Fi package, but they want to stay in touch with their family and friends onboard the cruise ship.

The amazing part about visiting Ocean Cay is that many things are included. Access to the beaches, lounge chairs, water stations, and lunch is complimentary.
Furthermore, if you’ve purchased the Wi-Fi and/or beverage package on the cruise ship, they will also work when you’re on the private island.

Specialty Dining
Specialty dining is a great option for those looking for an enhanced culinary experience. Onboard MSC, specialty dining costs extra.
When you pay for specialty dining, you’ll eat in a separate venue, have enhanced service, and enjoy higher-quality food options. The price varies depending on the restaurant. However, a specialty dining experience ranges from around $20 to $60.
Before booking your cruise, look out for specialty dining promotions. MSC sometimes offers promotions where cruise passengers can get a great deal on a dining package with 3 specialty dining experiences.

MSC cruise ships feature plenty of amazing activities and onboard attractions. Although many activities are included, some require an extra charge.
Typically, the activities that cost extra have less of a line, which is convenient for cruise passengers. Here’s a list of the activities that you’ll have to pay for on MSC cruise ships:
- Robotron
- 4D Cinemas
- Bowling & mini bowling
- Arcade

Spa
Like all mainstream contemporary and premium cruise lines, the spa charges an additional fee. Whether you’re interested in getting a massage, facial, or relaxing in the thermal suite, you must pay for these services.
MSC cruise ships are equipped with a state of the art spa, and they’re a great place to relax throughout you cruise.
Shore Excursions
It’s standard for shore excursions to cost extra on mainstream cruise lines, and MSC is no different. When you sail with MSC, your shore excursions will cost extra.
Onboard every MSC cruise ship, you’ll find a shore excursions desk where they can help you choose an excursion that matches your interest and budget. If you plan on booking a shore excursion, booking it in advance or on embarkation day is a good idea, as the popular excursions sell out quickly.

Photography Services
Onboard MSC cruises, photographers will capture special moments during your cruise vacation. Whether it’s embarkation day, during dinner, or in port, the ships provide photographers to take photos of the cruise passengers.
Throughout the cruise, the photographers will take your photos free of charge. However, if you want to keep the photos, you must purchase them at the photo gallery.
If you want professional cruise vacation photos, purchasing a photography package is a good idea. This way, you can take all your photos and have pictures of your amazing cruise experience.
